Circulatory system:

  1. Circulatory system is also known as the cardiovascular system.
  2. It is the system through which the transportation of gases, primarily oxygen takes place.
  3. In animals, the circulatory system is of two types:
    1. Open circulatory system:
      1. This type of circulatory system does not have any blood vessels.
      2. There is no difference between interstitial fluid and blood.
      3. Open spaces in which blood circulates are called sinuses and lacunae.
      4. Seen in invertebrates, Arthropoda & Mollusca.
    2. Closed circulatory system:
      1. This type of circulatory system has closed blood vessels and the heart.
      2. Both interstitial fluid and blood are different.
      3. Closed spaces in which blood circulates are called arteries and veins.
      4. Present in annelids and chordates.
