How many types of plant tissues are there?

Open in App
Solution

Plant tissue:

  1. Tissues are groups of cells that are functionally and structurally similar.
  2. Tissues are combined cells that have a common origin.
  3. Plants are made up of various types of tissues.
  4. Two main types of plant tissues are:
    1. Meristematic tissues:
      1. Meristematic tissue is equivalent or analogous to the stem cells present in animals.
      2. Meristems are the regions of active cell division and primarily decide the plant growth.
      3. Vacuoles are small or nearly absent in these tissues.
      4. The cells of these tissues are isodiametric without any intercellular space.
      5. They possess thin cellulosic walls and secondary walls are absent.
      6. No ergastic substances are present.
    2. Permanent tissues:
      1. These are also referred to as non-meristematic tissue.
      2. This tissue consists of cells that no longer divide.
      3. These tissues are formed after the differentiation or specialization of meristematic cells.
      4. These are further divided into two types:
        1. Simple permanent tissues - tissues that have cells all similar in structure and function.
Example - Parenchyma, Collenchyma & Sclerenchyma
        2. Complex permanent tissues - tissues that have many different types of cells.
          Example - Xylem and phloem
      5. Permanent tissues get differentiated into three main types of tissue systems i.e., dermal, ground, and vascular tissue systems.
