Question

How oxygen is formed in photosynthesis?

Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis:H

  1. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants take in carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight.
  2. Water molecules are stripped of their electrons and broken into component atoms in the initial stage of photosynthesis.
  3. Two water molecules' oxygen atoms combine to generate diatomic oxygen (O2).
  4. The production of the proton gradient within the thylakoid membrane is aided by solitary protons, hydrogen atoms devoid of electrons.
  5. The diatomic oxygen is then released, and the chlorophyll center connects with fresher water molecules, continuing the cycle.
  6. As a result of the electrons involved, the chlorophyll must excite four electrons in order to release one oxygen molecule.

The overall reaction of photosynthesis:

6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2 +6H2O
