Solution

Resting phase or G0 ( Gap 0) phase:

  1. The resting phase or G0 is a non-growing state distinct from the interphase.
  2. Some cells in the adult animals do not appear to exhibit division (e.g., heart cells) and many other cells divide only occasionally.
  3. These cells that do not divide further exist G1 phase to enter an inactive stage called quiescent stage (G0) of the cell cycle.
  4. G0 phase is the phase in which the cell is neither dividing nor preparing to divide.
  5. Thus, cells are said to be in a resting phase.
