  1. Azotobacter is the genus of free-living aerobic bacteria and is present in the soil, and water also as a symbiosis with the plants.
  2. these plants have the capacity for Nitrogen fixation.
  3. These are non-photosynthetic organisms and also are resistant to the harsh environment because of the presence of a cyst.
  4. Plants need nitrogen for their growth and development.
  5. As the free Nitrogen in the atmosphere cannot be utilized directly by plants so these bacteria will convert the atmospheric nitrogen to usable forms which can be further utilized by the plants.
  6. Hence, Azotobacter is a non-photosynthetic bacterium.
