Is Bacillus Thuringiensis Harmful to Human Health?

Open in App
Solution

Bacillus Thuringiensis:

  1. It is a gram-positive bacterium found in soil that is also known as Bt.
  2. It's frequently used as a pesticide. It is also naturally present in the intestines of butterflies, moths, and caterpillars. Some moths, such as Cadra calidella, can become ill as a result of this paradise.
  3. B.Thuringiensis was identified in silkworms in 1902 by a Japanese sericulture engineer who called it B. Sotto. Later that year, in 1911, Ernst Berliner, a German microbiologist, uncovered the Bt in sick moths in Thuringia, giving rise to the species name.
  4. Bt is closely related to B. cereus and B. anthracis, both of which are present in soil and may cause anthrax.
