Question

Is cytochrome c present in the matrix?

Open in App
Solution

Cytochrome C:

  1. Cytochrome C is present in the inner membrane.
  2. Mitochondria are surrounded by two membranes: an outer and an inner membrane.
  3. The inner membrane has a number of infoldings known as cristae.
  4. Because these cristae contain coenzymes for electron transport chains, cytochromes can be found here.
  5. The main electron carriers in the electron transport chain are cytochromes.
  6. Fe (iron) and Cu (copper) are minerals associated with cytochrome (copper).
  7. Cytochromes are iron-containing molecules that play an important role in electron transfer.
