Question

Is differentiation in plants open?

Solution

Plant growth is open:

Plant growth is an open form of growth, meaning it is indeterminate, with some cells constantly dividing and assisting in the expansion of cell or tissue size. Meristematic cells are cells that divide indefinitely.

Plants Grow in three stages:

  1. Meristematic Phase: The meristematic zone is made up of meristematic cells that are constantly dividing and growing at the tip of a plant's root.
  2. The elongation phase: is characterized by the presence of cells adjacent to meristematic cells. These cells elongate due to the enlargement of the vacuole within the cell, and this zone is known as the zone of elongation.
  3. Maturation Phase: During the maturation phase, the cells found after the elongation zone reach their maximum size. They stop dividing once they reach the maturation stage.
