Is Psoriasis an autoimmune disease?

Open in App
Solution

Autoimmune diseases:

  1. These diseases occur because the cells of the body that fight against foreign antigens start targeting body cells.
  2. These immune cells attack healthy body cells.
  3. For example, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, etc.

Psoriasis:

  1. In this disease, the immune cells of the body start targeting skin cells resulting in scabs.
  2. There are no cures for this disease (as of now).

Therefore, psoriasis is an autoimmune disease.
