Glycolysis

  1. In the second stage of glycolysis, two 3-carbon molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate are transformed into pyruvate in a series of steps.
  2. This includes reorganizations, one of which includes an additional step of phosphorylation.
  3. Two NAD+ is converted into two H+ and two NADH during the return phase.
  4. Finally, the two phosphate groups on each of the two 3-carbon molecules are used to generate ATP.
  5. As a result, four ATP are formed during this stage.
  6. After deducting the two ATP required in the investment phase, it is clear that two ATP are derived from one molecule of glucose in the glycolysis process.
