Heart cells:
The heart is a vital organ, composed of four distinct chambers.
The human heart is composed of four major cell types—cardiac fibroblasts (CFs), cardiomyocytes, smooth muscle cells (SMCs), and endothelial cells (ECs).
The heart is unable to regenerate heart muscle after a heart attack and lost cardiac muscle is replaced by scar tissue.
Scar tissue does not contribute to the cardiac contractile force.
