Photosynthesis:

Photosynthesis is the conversion of sunlight, carbon dioxide (CO2), and water into food (sugars) and oxygen by plants, algae, and certain microorganisms.

Oxygen during photosynthesis:

  1. By photolysis of water in the membranes of grana thylakoids, oxygen is produced in the photosynthesis process.
  2. The process of water splitting into oxygen and hydrogen in illuminated chloroplasts is known as the photocatalytic splitting of water or photolysis.
  3. The process necessitates the presence of an oxygen-evolving complex, as well as light energy and an electron carrier.
  4. Light reactions take place during the light phase. ATP and NADPH2 intermediates are created during this phase.
  5. These are the components of photosynthesis's assimilation power.
  6. This phase also includes the two photosynthetic components, Photosystem I and Photosystem II, as well as water splitting, light absorption, and oxygen liberation.
  7. The splitting of water produces oxygen during a light reaction. H+, O, and electrons are separated from the water.
  8. Green plants fix atmospheric CO2 to carbohydrates during photosynthesis.
  9. There are two stages to it: the light reaction and the dark reaction. ATP and NADPH are created during the light reaction, while H2O is oxidized to release O2 (photolysis of water i.e., H2O).
    To show that oxygen is produced during photosynthesis, aquatic plants like  Hydrilla is used.
