Autotrophs:

  1. An autotroph is an organism that can produce its own food using light, water, carbon dioxide, or other chemicals.
  2. Because autotrophs produce their own food, they are sometimes called producers.
  3. Examples include Algae, cyanobacteria, and all plants.

Heterotrophs:

  1. Heterotrophs refer to the organisms which feed on autotrophs for their food.
  2. Heterotrophs are also known as consumers.
  3. Almost all animals come under the heterotrophs category.
  4. The protozoa are heterotrophic protists that ingest their food and are single-celled or colonial.
  5. Some of the animals are in symbiotic association with autotrophs like corals.
  6. Heterotrophs cannot carry out photosynthesis, they do not have nor require these pigments.
  7. Some examples of heterotrophs include Human beings, Cows and include all animals.
  8. Examples of some bacteria are Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella typhi, and Clostridium tetani.
