  1. A major part of both mechanical and chemical digestion occurs in the stomach.
  2. Mechanical digestion:
    1. It is the mechanical breakdown of large food particles into small food particles that occur in mechanical digestion.
    2. Mechanical digestion occurs from the mouth to the stomach.
    3. It includes chewing and mixing saliva with the food causing its breakdown.
  3. Chemical digestion
    1. It is a breakdown of compounds with a high molecular weight into compounds with a low molecular weight that occurs in chemical digestion.
    2. Chemical digestion is referred to as occurring from the mouth to the intestine.
    3. In chemical digestion, food mixes with the acid leading to a breakdown.
    4. This is achieved with the help of various enzymes produced by digestive glands digestive juice and HCL also play an important role in chemical digestion.
