Open in App
Solution

Mitosis:

It is a type of cell division in which a single cell divides in order to produce two genetically identical “daughter cells”. The purpose of mitosis is:

  1. Mitosis is required for growth, repair, and asexual reproduction.
  2. It plays an important role in the development of an organism.
  3. In single-celled organisms, mitosis is seen as the process of asexual reproduction.
  4. It also helps in the replacement of damaged tissues.
  5. The cells near the damaged cells begin mitosis when they do not sense the neighboring cells.
  6. The dividing cells reach each other and cover up the damaged cells.
