Question

What are DNA and inheritance?

Open in App
Solution

DNA:

  1. DNA is known as deoxyribonucleic acid.
  2. It is the genetic structure responsible for storing information.
  3. DNA is made up of a nitrogen base, sugar, and a phosphate backbone.
  4. When this genetic information is passed from the parent to an offspring and hence from one generation to another, it is known as inheritance.
  5. Hence, as proved unequivocally by Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase, DNA acts as genetic material and not proteins as DNA inherits it.
