Oviduct:

  1. The oviduct, also known as the fallopian tube, is the organ that provides a passage route for the ovary.
  2. The mature egg released by the ovary travels through the oviduct to reach the uterus.
  3. It is divided into three regions - infundibulum, ampulla, and isthmus.
  4. Fertilization of the mature ovum by incoming sperm occurs in the oviduct.
  5. The walls of the oviduct contain smooth muscles and mucosal inner lining while the outer layer is made up of supporting tissues.
  6. It provides vital structural and nutritional support for the development of the embryo.
