The primary olfactory cortex is found in the inferior temporal lobe.
The piriform cortex, olfactory tubercle, portion of the amygdala, entorhinal cortex, and periamygdaloid cortex are all involved.
It also includes the prepyriform area, according to certain authors.
Fibres from the olfactory tract are sent to the primary olfactory brain. It receives input from mitral cells and tufted cells. These cells are not allowed to pass via the thalamus.
Fibres from the primary olfactory cortex travel to the hippocampus, thalamus, and hypothalamus.
