Some contraindications for IUD use are:

1. Suspected or known pregnancy.
2. Current behavior suggest risk for PID or acute PID.
3. Postabortal or Postpartum endometritis in the past three months.
4. Abnormal genital bleeding that is undiagnosed.
5. Previously placed IUD which has not been removed.
6. Uterine abnormalities, distorted uterine cavity from leiomyomata, etc.
7. Untreated acute cervicitis or vaginosis.
