Spermatogenesis:

  1. Spermatogenesis is the process by which immature germ cells called spermatogonia produce sperms.
  2. Diploid spermatogonia turn into haploid spermatozoa.
  3. Luteinizing hormone stimulates the secretion of androgens which stimulates spermatogenesis.

Disorders of spermatogenesis:

  1. Hypospermatogenesis - It is the decrease in the number of spermatogonia and primary spermatids.
  2. Maturation arrest at any phase
  3. Azoospermia includes Sertoli cell-only syndrome

Spermiogenesis:

  1. Spermiogenesis is the process by which haploid spermatids become spermatozoa.
  2. It is a part of spermatogenesis.
  3. The follicle-stimulating hormone secretes some factors which help in spermiogenesis.
  4. The haploid spermatids formed undergo spermiogenesis to form spermatozoa or sperms.

Disorders of spermiogenesis:

  1. Motility defects
  2. Different morphological defects
  3. Fertilization defects
