Steroid hormones :

  1. Steroid hormone is a group of fat-soluble molecules deprived from cholesterol, belonging to the class of chemical compounds known as the steroid.
  2. It is secreted mainly by three steroid glands, which are the adrenal cortex, testes, and ovaries, and placenta during the period of pregnancy
  3. They are transported through the bloodstream to the cells of various target organs, to perform and regulate their various physiological functions.

They are mainly grouped into two classes- corticosteroids and sex steroids.

1. Corticosteroids

  1. Testosterone
  2. Estrogen
  3. Progesterone

2. Sex steroids

  1. Glucocorticoids
  2. Mineralocorticoids
