  1. Inflorescence is defined as the arrangement of a cluster of flowers on a floral axis.
  2. Flowers are classified based on the arrangement of flowers on the main axis of the flower and the time of its flowering.

The following are the types of inflorescence:

  • Racemose Inflorescence
  1. In this type of inflorescence, the flowers branch laterally on the floral axis.
  2. Here the floral axis keeps on growing and the flowers develop in an acropetal pattern.
  • Cymos Inflorescence
  1. It is characterized by the presence of a flower at the top of the flower axis.
  2. In this type of inflorescence, flowers follow the basipetal pattern of growth.
  • Compound inflorescence
  1. In this type of inflorescence, the branches of the main axis are repeated once or twice in racemose or cymose manner.
