What are the stages of mitosis And meiosis?

Open in App
Solution

Cell division: It is the formation of new cells from a parent cell by the duplication and transfer of chromosomes. It is of two types, viz mitosis, and meiosis.

  1. In mitosis, exact replicas are produced and this is observed in almost all the diploid cells of the body.
  2. It is also called equatorial division.
  3. Meiosis is a type of cell division in which haploid cells like egg cells or sperms are produced.
  4. It is also known as reductional division.

The different stages of mitosis and meiosis are as follows:

Mitosis :

  1. Prophase
  2. Prometaphase
  3. Metaphase
  4. Anaphase
  5. Telophase

Meiosis :

  1. Prophase I
  2. Metaphase I
  3. Anaphase I
  4. Telophase I
  5. Prophase II
  6. Metaphase II
  7. Anaphase II
  8. Telophase II
