Solution

Nucleotide:

  1. The organic molecule with the combination of a pentose sugar, nitrogenous base, and phosphate forms a nucleotide.
  2. The monomer of nucleotide along with various nitrogenous bases form polynucleotides (DNA and RNA).
  3. The metabolism and physiological activity are carried out by nucleotides.

Components of nucleotide:

  1. The components of nucleotide are linked by covalent bonds.
  2. There are three main units in a nucleotide which include:
  • Nitrogenous bases – Purine and Pyrimidine are nitrogenous bases.
  • Pentose Sugar – Ribose and Deoxyribose are the sugar
  • Phosphate – monophosphate, diphosphate, and triphosphate are the different phosphates.
