Question

What are the three stages of cellular respiration?

Open in App
Solution

Cellular respiration:

  1. It is the mechanism by which food materials are broken down by oxidation inside the cell to release energy.
  2. In turn, this energy is utilized by the body for performing various physiological and biochemical processes.

There are three stages of cellular respiration. They include:

  • Glycolysis: This is the first step that converts glucose to pyruvate.
  • Krebs cycle: The pyruvate from glycolysis is converted into energy currencies like ATP, NADH, and hydrogen ions.
  • Oxidative phosphorylation: This utilizes the hydrogen ions produced during Kreb's cycle to power the electron transport chain and synthesize ATP.
