Solution

Pollination:

  1. The transfer of pollen grains from the stamen to the stigma in the carpel is known as pollination.
  2. Pollination is done by birds, animals, insects, water, wind, accidental, etc.
  3. Based on the vectors of pollination, there are two types of pollinators: Biotic (living pollinators) and Abiotic (non-living pollinators).

Biotic pollination:

Biotic pollination has three classes:

  1. Entomophily: Pollination by insects
  2. Malacophily: Pollination by invertebrates
  3. Chiropterophily and ornithophily: Pollination by vertebrates

Traits of plants that adapt to the biotic pollination mode:

  1. Existence of relationships between pollen vectors and the pollination unit.
  2. Production of small amounts of pollen.
  3. Coloured and fragrant flowers producing nectar.
  4. Difference in size and the external morphology of the pollen which is typically sticky.
