Two main structural parts of a virus :

  1. Genetic material: The Viruses contain DNA or RNA as their genetic material.
  2. Protein coat: The protein coat which surrounds the genetic material is called the capsid, which functions to protect the virus genome from nucleases. The capsid is made up of small subunits of proteins called capsomeres.
