Frustules: The cell wall of diatoms is made of silica which is referred to as frustule. The two valves of frustules are as follows:

  1. Epitheca: The larger valve of frustule which overlaps with hypotheca and fits together like a soapbox.
  2. Hypotheca: The smaller valve of frustule which overlaps with epitheca and fits together like a soapbox.
