What are the types of contractions?

Open in App
Solution

Contractions:

  1. Contractions in muscle occur when a person does some activity and the muscles in the body contract i.e shortening or lengthening of muscles.
  2. Actin and myosin are two types of filaments that are necessary for muscle movement.

Types of contractions:

  1. Isotonic contraction:
  1. The contraction in which the tension in the muscle remains constant.
  2. In isotonic contraction, the tension in the muscle is constant, and a load is moved as the length of the muscle changes.
  3. Example: This type of contraction takes place while lifting something in hand or walking.

2. Isometric contraction:

  1. This type of contraction occurs when tension in the muscle is produced without changing the length of the muscles.
  2. The muscles are not shortened during contraction.
  3. Example: This type of contraction maintains the posture and bone-joint stability.

3. Concentric contraction:

  1. The type of contraction in which the muscle is shortened.
  2. Example: Concentric contraction happens when a person lifts something heavier than normal.
