Question

What are the organic compounds in acid-insoluble fractions?

Open in App
Solution

Acid-insoluble fractions:

  1. The fraction of the cell's components that are insoluble in acid is called acid-insoluble fractions.
  2. Organic compounds such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids are insoluble in acids found in the stomach.
  3. Acids in the stomach provide the optimal conditions for enzymes to work.

The biomolecules are broken down by various enzymes in the stomach:

  1. The proteins are broken down into small peptides by Trypsin, and chymotrypsin enzyme in the stomach.
  2. Carbohydrates are hydrolyzed by pancreatic amylase enzyme into disaccharides.
  3. Fats or lipid molecules are broken down by lipases into diglycerides.
  4. Nucleic acids are broken down into nucleotides by the pancreatic enzyme nucleases.
