Question

What are the two components of chromatin?

Open in App
Solution

Two components of chromatin:

DNA:

  1. Deoxyribose Nucleic Acids are double-stranded structures.
  2. DNA is the condensed structure that helps in the inheritance of characters from one generation to the next via genes.

Histones:

  1. Histones are the protein that is bonded to the DNA.
  2. Histones are small, positively charged proteins.
  3. They help in arranging the structure of DNA.

Chromatin structure:

  1. Chromatin is composed of DNA, RNA, and protein. The DNA composition of chromatin is 30-40, 1 from RNA and 50 to 60 forms of proteins.
  2. These components are found in different organisms or tissues of the same species.
  3. DNA wraps around simple histone proteins. This structure is called a nucleosome.
  4. They seem to be like beads with a thread-like structure.
  5. Therefore, histone protein is the preferred component of chromatin.
  6. Therefore, we tend to conclude that chromatin are repeated structures made up of DNA molecules wrapped around histone proteins.
