What cells are created In Mitosis?

Open in App
Solution

Mitosis:

  1. It is the process by which a cell replicates its chromosomes and then segregates them, producing two identical nuclei in preparation for cell division.
  2. Mitosis results in two cells that are identical.
  3. This occurs in somatic cells and creates daughter cells with a full set of chromosomes. So, 2 diploid somatic cells (that are exact copies of the parent cell) result from mitosis.
  4. The daughter cells have a copy of every chromosome as a result, mitosis first involves copying chromosomes and then separating the copies to pass each new cell with a full set.
  5. Mitosis occurs in the following stages – interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
