Gram-positive bacteria:

  1. These are the bacteria that test positive in the Gram stain test, which is commonly used to swiftly classify bacteria.
  2. When Gram's stain is applied to them, they appear bluish-purple under the microscope.
  3. This is due to the fact that they have a very thick layer of peptidoglycan and may thus retain a crystal violet stain.
  4. Examples: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Enterococcus, etc.

Gram-positive bacteria have been linked to the following diseases:

  1. Diphtheria: It is caused by Corynebacterium. Symptoms include rapid breathing, difficulty in breathing, fever, chills, tiredness, nasal discharge, etc.
  2. Infections caused by Streptococci: Symptoms are strep throat, fever, etc.
  3. Infections with pneumococcal bacteria.
