Golgi bodies:

  1. Golgi bodies are also known as Golgi apparatus or Golgi complex.
  2. Golgi bodies are found in eukaryotic cells present just beside the nucleus.
  3. Golgi bodies have 5 to 8 cup-shaped series of compartments known as cisternae.
  4. Golgi bodies are referred to as the post office of the cell.

Functions of Golgi bodies:

  1. Golgi bodies secrete and pack the proteins after receiving them from the endoplasmic reticulum.
  2. Golgi bodies help in the transportation of lipids.
  3. Golgi bodies help in the formation of lysosomes.
  4. Golgi bodies produce sphingomyelin, glycolipids, etc.
  5. Golgi bodies also produce a complex polysaccharide required for making the cell wall.
