Solution

Menstrual cycle: The monthly cycle of changes in the ovaries and uterine lining (endometrium), beginning with egg preparation for fertilization is referred to as the menstrual cycle.

  1. Ovulation is the process of releasing a matured egg or ovum from a mature follicle in the ovary after stimulation with the hormone LH (luteinizing hormone).
  2. The corpus luteum is the structure in charge of releasing the hormone progesterone.
  3. This is the pregnancy hormone, which produces changes in the ovary and increases the uterine cell lining.

The regression of the corpus luteum:

  1. The lack of pregnancy and the end of the luteal phase are indicated by corpus luteum regression.
  2. Progesterone is secreted by the corpus luteum, which aids in the maintenance of the endometrium during pregnancy.
  3. The corpus luteum degenerates in the absence of pregnancy.
