Emasculation:

  1. The process of removal of anthers from a bisexual flowers without harming the female reproductive part i.e. pistil is known as emasculation.
  2. During emasculation, flowers are first covered with bags before opening.
  3. Then mature, viable, stored pollen grains are dusted on the stigma of flowers.

Functions of emasculation:

  1. Emasculation is done to prevent self-pollination.
  2. Emasculation is done to cross pollinate the plants so that desirable characteristics are obtained in the crops.
  3. Thus, emasculation leads to a superior variety of crops.
