Question

What does hypertension do to blood vessels?

Open in App
Solution

High blood pressure (hypertension):

  1. It is a common condition in which the long-term force of blood pushing against artery walls is high enough that it can eventually cause health problems, such as heart diseases.
  2. Blood pressure is determined by both the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of blood obstructing the flow in your arteries.
  3. High blood pressure occurs when the body's small blood vessels (arterioles) narrow, causing blood to press too hard against the vessel walls and making the heart work harder to maintain pressure.
  4. The normal measure of blood pressure is considered at 120/80 whereas values exceeding them are considered as high blood pressure.
