Lysosomes are membrane-bound organelles. The area inside the membrane is called the lumen and contains hydrolytic enzymes and other cellular debris.
The pH level of the lumen is always between 4.5 and 2.0, which helps make it quite acidic. The size of each lysosome is different, with the largest being over 1.2 μm. But they usually range from 0.1 μm to 0.6 μm.
