  1. These are organelles that are round to elliptical. Mitochondria look like beans.
  2. They are found in almost all eukaryotic cells and are surrounded by a bilayer system. The endometrium has many creases called cristae that surround an internal compartment called the matrix.
  3. The inner mitochondrial membrane contains many proteins involved in the respiratory chain. Mitochondrial DNA is present in the matrix. It produces energy known as ATP for cells through a series of chemical reactions.
