Solution

Oxidase:

  1. Oxidase is an enzyme that catalyzes reactions involving dioxygen (O2) as an electron acceptor.
  2. In reactions involving hydrogen atom donation, oxygen is reduced to water (H2O) or hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
  3. Some oxidation reactions that involve monoamine oxidase or xanthine oxidase do not involve free molecular oxygen.
  4. Oxidase is a subclass of oxidoreductase.
  5. Example: cytochrome c oxidase that enables the body to use oxygen for the final components of its energy production and electron transport chain.
