Tunica Corpus theory

  1. Schmidt distinguishes two tissue zones in the shoot apex and termed them tunica and corpus.
  2. According to this theory, the shoot apex of the angiosperms has two distinct zones.
  3. The peripheral zone is called tunica and the central zone is called corpus.
  4. Tunica divides only in the anticlinal plane and corpus divides into various planes.
  5. Tunica-corpus theory is applicable only to shoot apex and histogen theory is applicable to root.
