Open in App
Solution

Heterocercal tail:

  1. The caudal fin of cartilaginous fishes with two asymmetrical lobes composes heterocercal fins.
  2. Heterocercal tail is present in the cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes).
  3. It is also present in many fossil fish, in the sharks, and in the more primitive bony fish.
  4. In the Heterocercal tail, the Vertebral column extends upward into a large dorsal lobe of the fin.
  5. It has no air bladder so the tail provides lift.
  6. Example: Sharks, Scoliodon.
