What Genes Are Inherited From Mother Only?

Mitochondrial DNA is inherited from the mother only.

Generally, people have two copies of each chromosome, one is inherited through the egg from the mother and the other through the sperm from the father. An egg and a sperm each have one set of 23 chromosomes. When fertilization of the egg occurs by the sperm, two copies of each chromosome are seen and hence the formation of embryo.

The chromosomes which determine the gender of the baby are referred to as the sex chromosomes. Usually, the egg from the mother contributes X chromosome, however, from the sperm of the father it could be Y or X chromosome.
