What happens in gastrulation?

Open in App
Solution

Gastrulation:

  1. The transition from a blastula with a single layer of cells to a gastrula with numerous layers of cells occurs throughout embryonic development.
  2. Cell movements during gastrulation are referred to as formative or morphogenetic movements.

During this phase, the following significant events occur:

  1. Formation of three major germ layers.
  2. Establishment of the basic body plan, which comprises the physical creation of the primary body axes.
  3. As a result, cells are transported to a new location, allowing them to interact with cells that were not previously nearby.
  4. This results in inductive interactions, which are characteristic of organogenesis and neurulation.
