Peristalsis:

  1. The recurring contraction and relaxation of muscles is termed as peristalsis.
  2. It is noticed in the alimentary canal and uterine canal.
  3. Peristalsis occurs in the alimentary canal by gastrin and the peristalsis of the uterine walls occurs by oxytocin and estrogen.
  4. Uterine peristalsis occurs during the transport of semen and gametes into the ovum and is regulated by estrogen and progesterone hormones.
  5. Uterine peristalsis is stimulated by estrogen hormone and inhibited by progesterone hormone.
