The plants have the tendency to bend toward sunlight and this phenomenon is called phototropism.
For the photosynthesis process, plants need light in order to stimulate the production of energy.
The hormones responsible for phototropism are auxins.
Bending of the plant is caused by more elongation of the shaded part as compared to the lighter side, caused by increased auxin concentration on shaded side and decreased on the other side.
Auxins are involved in growth-promoting activities, such as cell division, cell enlargement, pattern formation, tropic growth, flowering, fruiting, and seed formation.
Auxin also controls xylem differentiation and helps in cell division.
