Question

What hormone raises blood sugar?

Open in App
Solution

Blood sugar:

  1. Insulin and glucagon are hormones that help to regulate glucose levels in the body, which are secreted by the pancreas.
  2. Insulin helps in the absorption of glucose for energy.
  3. When the sugar level decreases, the pancreas release glucagon which gives a signal to the liver for releasing stored glucose.
  4. So, both insulin and Glucagon hormones will regulate the blood glucose level.
  5. These hormones work in a negative feedback loop to maintain balance.
  6. In other words, the effects are offset by the loss of function.
  7. This helps to maintain system stability.
  8. Hormones like epinephrine (catecholamine), cortisol (glucocorticoid), etc. also increase blood sugar.
