What inhibits the release of ADH?

Open in App
Solution

ADH:

  1. The ADH (antidiuretic hormone) regulates the water levels in the body.
  2. It is formed in the hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland.
  3. It is responsible for the reabsorption of water from the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney nephrons.
  4. The release of ADH is restricted by the ANP (atrial natriuretic peptide).
  5. The ANP is released by the stretched atria responding to elevated blood pressure.
  6. Some medications and alcohol are other reasons.
  7. Decrease or inhibition of ADH leads to diabetes insipidus.
