What is a diploid life cycle?

Open in App
Solution

Diploid life cycle:-

  1. The type of life cycle in which an organism spends most of its life as an adult e.g., humans.
  2. A diploid organism is one which contains two sets of chromosomes.
  3. In this type of life cycle, the individual undergoes meiosis at the time of sexual reproduction to form haploid gametes/sex cells.
  4. The gametes then again fuse to form a diploid zygote.
  5. The zygote then undergoes mitosis to form two somatic cells. In this way, multiple mitotic divisions lead to the formation of an adult.
