Question

What is an example of proteins involved in positive regulation?

Open in App
Solution

Gene regulation:

It is a mechanism of switching on or off the expression of genes depending upon the requirement of the cell.

Positive regulation :

  1. In this type of gene regulation, the genes remain unexpressed until they are induced to express, thus called inducible gene expression.
  2. The inducer molecules are involved in inducing the expression of genes.

Example: Catabolite activator protein (CAP):

  1. A protein that is involved in regulating the gene expression in the lac operon.
  2. When the levels of glucose are low in the cell, then levels of cAMP(cyclic AMP) increase.
  3. The CAP binds to the cAMP to form the CAP-cAMP complex which binds to the RNA polymerase to activate the transcription of all three genes(LacZ, LacY, LacA) required for the metabolism of Glucose.
